Food StructureChapter 5: Fueling the Engine

Can I drink alcohol?

Short answer first. Full logic in the chapter.

Answer

Alcohol is excluded from this framework entirely during active fat loss. Here's why:

It's not about the calories (though a glass of wine is ~150 kcal). It's about what alcohol does to your machinery:

  • 1. Halts fat burning — Your body stops burning fat to prioritize processing the poison
  • 2. Destroys sleep — Fragments deep sleep, spiking cortisol the next day
  • 3. Fills The Wet Sponge Cortisol + dehydration = massive water retention
  • 4. Disables The Rider — Alcohol shuts down your prefrontal cortex. The Elephant takes the wheel and heads straight for hyper-palatable food

You cannot optimize an engine while pouring sand into the gas tank.
